Eurocan Beacon International, now a division of Ellery Freight
Services Ltd, started business over fifteen years ago in mid 1987
as a joint venture between a leading Canadian freight forwarding
company, Beacon International Despatch Ltd, and New Zealand interests.
Eurocan
Beacon International became a 100% New Zealand owned company in
early 1995 when Don Leith, who started the company, and Denis
Thornton purchased the Canadian share holding from Beacon.
Although
involved in other markets to a lesser extent Eurocan Beacon International
has, as a result of its origins, specialised in trade with Canada
and has become the leading New Zealand freight forwarding company
and N.V.O.C.C. in the Canada / New Zealand trade.
Eurocan
Beacon International is a multi-modal freight forwarder utilising
all types of shipping and airfreight services for both direct
exporters and importers as well as other freight forwarders.
Although
a “niche” forwarder in the Canadian trade Eurocan
Beacon International is keen to develop other areas in the world
in conjunction with well established and respected forwarding
companies. As an associate member of FIATA, the international
freight forwarding organisation, Eurocan Beacon International
has access to freight forwarders in every corner of the globe.
Exports
from New Zealand, although small by comparison with the import
trade, are a growing part of the business handled by Eurocan Beacon
International, again both by consolidation of LCL cargo and the
shipment of full containers and airfreight.
In
1994 the management of Eurocan Beacon saw the need to ensure a
guarantee of quality and put the company through a quality assurance
programme which saw the company being awarded ISO9002 certification
in March 1995.
The Business of Eurocan Beacon International was sold to Ellery
Freight Services Ltd on Sept 1st 2006 and continues as a operating
division within the company structure.
